About FuelWatch Global

What is FuelWatch Global?

FuelWatch Global is a real-time energy intelligence platform that tracks refined fuel reserve levels for over 50 countries worldwide. The platform monitors diesel fuel, unleaded petrol, and aviation fuel (Jet-A) reserves, expressing supply in days-of-cover — the number of days a country could sustain current consumption rates without new imports or additional refining.

Data is continuously aggregated from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the World Bank, OPEC Secretariat publications, and official government energy reports, and is updated as frequently as real-time sources allow — typically weekly for official figures and daily for news intelligence.

Methodology & Confidence Scoring

FuelWatch Global assigns a confidence score (0–100) to every reserve estimate, reflecting the quality and freshness of the underlying data.

  • Score 70–100 (Official / Verified): Figures sourced directly from government agencies, the EIA, or intergovernmental organisations such as the IEA or OPEC. Data is current within 14 days.
  • Score 50–69 (Partial Official): Figures derived from official sources but with some modelled components, or official data older than 14 days.
  • Score below 50 (Estimated): Model-derived figures based on consumption patterns, import dependency data, and historical trends. Used when no official report is available within 90 days.

Data older than 90 days is flagged as stale with a visible alert on country dashboards.

Data Sources

  • U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) — Weekly Petroleum Status Report providing US national petroleum stocks for diesel (distillate fuel oil), unleaded petrol (motor gasoline), and aviation fuel (kerosene-type jet fuel). Updated every Wednesday.
  • World Bank Open Data — National energy statistics including population, GDP, and energy use per capita for 217 countries. Used for country metadata enrichment and consumption modelling.
  • OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) — Member-state and OPEC+ production data, refining capacity, and reserve figures for 21 oil-producing nations including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Nigeria, and Russia.
  • Industry News Feeds — RSS aggregation from Rigzone, OilPrice.com, Reuters Energy, and EIA Today in Energy for real-time supply disruption intelligence.
